Summer Reading

Summer Reading

Milwee Middle School – Summer Reading Information for 2025-2026

Dear Parents of Incoming 6th Grade Spartans,

Summer is here, and I know you are all excited to just relax and take it easy; you certainly deserve this since it has been a very busy school year.

Having said that, there is much credible data that indicates that students that stop reading for summer months may have a one to two year loss in their reading performances.

Milwee has a very easy solution to stop this from happening. We are recommending, not requiring, students to read and analyze  one novel during the summer. Students may choose any book of their choice. To make this easier for you parents, Milwee has a Library of Sunshine State Readers that are available to check out throughout the summer. This is located in the front office.

Once the students have read the novel, they will need to answer a variety of questions.

Students may choose the types of questions they answer. Different questions are worth different points. Students in Standard, Advanced, and Gifted have different points needed for the completion of the assignment. See the links below for further information.

Students can either type out their answers or write them out on notebook paper.

We are asking the students to bring these to their English Language Arts teachers the first week of school. These will be used to get to know the students and share their reading experiences. In addition, teachers will be giving extra credit for those that choose to do this during the summer.

If you have any questions, just contact the front office.

Have a great, safe, and restful summer.

We look forward to seeing our new Spartans in August.

Sincerely,

Marsha Geary
