Dear Parents of Incoming Spartans,
Summer is here, and I know you are all excited to just relax and take it easy. You certainly deserve this since it has been a very busy school year.
Having said that, there is much credible data indicating that students who stop reading during the summer months may have a one to two year loss in their reading performances.
Milwee has a very easy solution to prevent this. We are suggesting, not requiring, students to read and analyze one novel during the summer. Students may read any book of their choice. To make this easy for you parents, Milwee has a Library of Sunshine State Readers that are available to check out throughout the summer. This will be located in the front office.
After the students read the novel, they are encouraged to take the next step and choose a variety of questions.
Different questions are worth different points. Students in Standard, Advanced, and Pre-IB have different points suggested for the completion of the assignment. See the attachment for further information.
Students can either type out their answers or write them out on notebook paper.
We are asking the students to bring these to their English Language Arts teachers the first week of school. These will be used as resources to “Get to Know Each Other.” In addition, teachers will apply extra credit for those who choose to do this during the summer.
